Drops for ascended in open world aren't great, don't expect to see those frequently. So you can do some achievements for weapons and gear. Fractals, WvW, and PvP all have ascended gear available for purchase but you will need to work on it. They are not a one day thing.
One thing about raids is that pug groups tend to require ascended gear. If you can join a guild that does raid and you have a good static group, exotic gear should be fine. Being good at what you do and doing the fight mechanics well is more important. Fractals have the agony mechanic that will eventually require ascended gear. In the same way, if you upgrade equipment with runes/sigils, then each piece remembers what runes/sigils it has been upgraded with, so you can change to those specific rune/sigil effects without cost. Basically, it would be a more complex PvP equipment system. Only with this, you would have to manually make each upgrade once to unlock it.

Since people are bringing in PUG raiding (which I personally would not recommend to start out on), here is my take on how important ascended gear is: If you spent 1% of the time it takes to get full ascended gear on the training golem and on some out of game guides (say around 1-2 hours tops), you will outperform everybody else in full ascended I calculated that I have over 200 ascended items that I will not need once the Armoury goes live. I want to know if I should be salvaging it because my bank is full (quite literally) of this soon-to-be-no-longer-useful gear. When I add in all the gear on my characters, it approaches 400 ascended items to potentially be salvaged. Wupwup armor. Wupwup armor is an ascended armor set. All armor pieces in this set are created from a Wupwup Celestial Insignia and therefore have Celestial stats. Zehtuka's armor. Zehtuka's armor is an ascended armor set. It is only obtainable by players who own the Path of Fire expansion. This set has Harrier's stats.

In the upcoming April feature build, we will be converting all legendary and ascended equipment to be account-based. This means ascended equipment will always remain account-bound and will not soulbind to a character when equipped. Legendary weapons will continue to be tradeable until equipped, at which point they will become account-bound
Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) 1 Bitterfrost Frontier winter berries farm. 2 Bloodstone Fen blood ruby farm (this one allows to reset the stats at the cost of 100 unbound magic). 3 Lake Doric or Siren's Landing currencies farm. 4 Ember's Bay petrified wood farm (albeit I would save this one sfor the accesory instead).
To get ascended armor in WvW, you unlock the corresponding skin by completing the WvW reward track (triumphant armor), and then buy the ascended version from the skirmish quartermaster with WvW tickets and grandmaster marks (which can be crafted, or obtained by collecting 10 grandmaster mark tokens, obtained from the final stage of each WvW
